I get quite a few requests from people asking for police scanner recommendations. This is a tough one to answer but I will always suggest to never skimp as you get what you pay for. You can easily get a scanner for around $100 but you lose helpful functions such as being able to name frequencies with a Alpa Tagging, CTCSS tones to prevent interference, signal meters, and computer programming capabilities.
* Please Note: GRE ceased scanner production and are now produced by Whistler.

Whistler models are replacement and nearly identical to the now defunct GRE scanner line. Whistler bought the GRE intellectual property rights to their scanners.
